Can I just clarify that I recommended Russell Hoban's Ridley Walker as another example of a first person narrator with an interesting and unusual way of speaking, including some 'made up' language. I enjoyed it too. I thought doolally's was a great venue - all of us sitting around that big table cosy and warm with the rain lashing against the windows.
