Hello - once again, an excellent, entertaining summary of the session. Can I just clarify that I recommended Russell Hoban's Ridley Walker as another example of a first person narrator with an interesting and unusual way of speaking, including some 'made up' language. Hard going at first but, in my opinion, well worth the effort.

If you're very, very quick, there's what looks like a good Achebe interview on iPlayer at www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00hlczn/Chinua_Achebe_A_Hero_Returns. Don't hang about though - it expires today!

Lovely summary Barbara! A very enjoyable meeting again - I am always impressed with the high level of debate (and the quality of the cakes) and fully engaged by the discussion - I was glad to hear that others feel the same way. Looking forward to the next one.

This is a lovely summary of our first meeting Barbara! I enjoyed it too. I thought doolally's was a great venue - all of us sitting around that big table cosy and warm with the rain lashing against the windows. I think we made a fab group - everyone had something interesting to say. Looking forward to the next meeting.

It sounds like the group went really well - I'm so glad. Your blogging is great too - I felt like I was almost there. Really glad that the book caused such debate and discussion too - really insightful comments I thought. I hope that some of the group can get to Newcastle on 13 October to ask some of those questions directly. Hope that the next one goes well too. Great to have something so good happening in Berwick!
